MPC software companies and their customers can sustain and increase the benefits from MPC solutions by forming effective maintenance strategies. This can mean maintaining MPC models current and migrating applications with evolving techniques. This paper will show how a well-formed maintenance partnership can provide a platform for customer feedback which can lead to innovations which enhance software functionality, bringing further value to the producer.

Application methodologies continuously evolve and experience demonstrated improved ways to deploy solutions. Examples will be provided from dryer and evaporator solutions that have been online for more than ten years as well as installations on over forty lines for multiple polyolefin customers that show the improved technology that meets the plants' changing needs. Is the biological paradigm appropriate for MPC, “evolve or die”?
