Biotechnology in the United States has the ability to genetically modify organisms in order to better serve farmers and consumers.  However, these genetically modified organisms (GMOs), in particular crops, are receiving mixed reviews from Americans as a whole.  A significant amount of citizens are demanding the “Right to Know” and fighting for the implementation of a labeling system for GMOs.  Throughout this talk, I will give a general overview of genetically modified crops, as well as address the current policy associated with them.  I will then identify the key conflicts associated with the current policy.  I will discuss policy alternatives practiced in the European Union, as well as those proposed in the United States, and provide my recommendations.
