Innovations in Manufacturing and Energy

Robert W. Ivester, Ph.D, Deputy Director of the EERE Advanced Manufacturing Office at the U.S. Department of Energy,

Part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, The Advanced Manufacturing Office supports R&D projects, R&D consortia, and early-stage technical partnerships with national laboratories, companies, non-profits, state and local governments, and universities to bring innovative manufacturing technologies and materials to full scale industrial use.  Built upon a foundation of strong public-private partnerships, AMO is helping transition scientific innovations into new manufacturing capabilities for the security and well-being of our country and the world.  AMO is also helping manufacturers reduce industrial energy consumption and drive the next generation of manufactured goods for the U.S. economy.  For example, through direct investments in specific technology areas such as modular chemical process intensification and smart manufacturing, AMO assists U.S. industry in transforming traditional separations and reactions applications into modular intensified chemical processes that require less capital, operating costs and energy consumption and enables the integration of advance process control sensors to realize hierarchical levels of optimization from the processing cell to the global enterprise.
