The abundance of shale oil and gas feed stocks, often selling well below international levels, has given North American refineries a price advantage. There are many processing and handling issues for the transportation, storage, and refining of shale oils based on their physical and chemical characteristics. These characteristics can also impact the quality of fuels produced from them.
