Lessons Learned Throughout a Career in Process Safety

Co-chair(s)

Fosse, K., YPAB

The emphasis of this session is to provide a forum to pass on lessons learned from experienced Process Safety professionals to those newer to the field. In order to accomplish this, papers are sought from such professionals which provide either broad Process Safety or specific element lessons they have learned during their careers. Emphasis should be placed on sharing key lessons learned and professional experiences with an audience new to the Process Safety field. Papers will be selected from submitted abstracts, and may be augmented with invited presentations from experts on key complementary subjects. Some examples of possible paper topics include lessons learned on: o The traditional PSM elements, such as PHA, MOC, MI and Incident Investigation o Implementation of Process Safety programs or elements, at the site or corporate level o Newer elements such as Inherently Safer Process, Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA) and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), and Facility Siting / Consequence Analysis o Regulations and their Relationship to Process Safety o Process Safety as a Core Value in Operating Organizations o Lifelong Professional Development in Process Safety o The Role of Process Safety in the Success of a Megaproject o Unique Responsibilities of Process Safety Engineers in International Projects
