(67a) Gas Separation Membrane Tutorial

Authors

Zhou, L. - Presenter, UOP LLC, a Honeywell Company

Due to its low energy cost, membrane has been applied to different gas separation processes such as acid gas removal from natural gas, hydrogen purification, nitrogen production from air, and hydrocarbon recovery from refinery off gas, etc. In most recent years, membranes have also been proposed for flue gas CO2 capture. In this tutorial, the author will start the introduction of fundamentals of membrane for gas separation, followed by the different types of membranes and their applications. Different membrane process configurations will also be introduced at the tutorial. At the end, large scale commercial membrane units in the field of natural gas purification will be presented as the successful membrane application examples.
