Generally oil refineries have high energy consumption. The large part of this energy is consumed in furnaces and heat exchanger networks (HEN) of preheater section of distillation units. Managing of the energy consumption and reducing it by revamping of HEN is the most effective method for maximum energy recovery or minimum energy requirement (MER) in these units. Conventional methods such as mathematical programming may be applied for this purposes, but the results of the systematic methods (Pinch Technology and Exergy Analysis) shows better performances. In this paper the HEN revamping of two refineries in Iran was considered by using pinch technology. The results shows that the economical performances of retrofitted HEN are very interstive and refinery industries could get more saving in energy consumptions by little investment in HEN or increases the refinery feedstock.
