(17d) Management of Hazards Associated with Location of Process Plant Portable Buildings

This paper provides an overview of the recently released API interim guidelines for the siting of portable buildings relative to process plant explosion hazards. API RP-752 provides a three stage approach to facility siting which includes Stage 1 (Building and Hazard Identification), Stage 2 (Building Evaluation), and Stage 3 (Risk Management.) The guidelines provide the user directions for implementing each of the three stages in the analysis procedure when considering portable buildings. Noteworthy subject matter includes 1) defined situations that require siting evaluations for explosion hazards; 2) recommended building evaluation approach; 3) updated information on blast effects on wood framed trailers; and 4) risk management discussions.
