In 1998 the Particle Technology Forum (an international unit of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers) launched a Web site, named Educational Resources in Particle Technology or ERPT, to put several hundred tutorials in particle technology on the Web as a public service. These tutorials provide introductions to technical concepts and suggestions for solving typical industrial problems. Hundreds are being delivered daily via Web browsers around the world all day long, in several languages, and at no cost to the recipient.
The goals of ERPT are to help -- faculty extend their courses to include concepts and applications involving particles -- students learn about particle technology, an area often left out of college curricula -- industrial technologists deal with problems involving particles, for which their academic training is usually inadequate
ERPT now has seven years of experience in preparing and delivering on-line tutorials. This presentation will summarize that experience and note how the tutorials have been used in undergraduate education and industrial practice. The site's URL is www.erpt.org.
