The Verification and Validation practice is one of the essential components of the modeling governance. Simulation of linear, simple, single-phase physical systems are usually “easy” and provide results with high level of accuracy. The level of the high-fidelity simulations, model setup, system and parameter definition/estimation, and validation becomes more complex and challenging for nonlinear system. Some examples of these systems are such as systems with variable viscosity (e.g. polymerization), phase change and slurry (e.g. crystallization), and multiphysics (e.g. multiphase hydrogenation reactions with heat and mass transfer).

In this presentation, we will demonstrate some industrial cases with varied complexities where modeling and simulation were used for sensitive or complex systems. Few validation cases will be discussed for stirred cooling crystallization, a complex multiphase reaction set in a large plug flow reactor with static mixer, a multiphase bioreactor and hydrogenation.
