(291d) Development and Intensification of Green Pathways for Conversion of Soybean Oil to Biodiesel

Authors

Sunol, A. - Presenter, University of South Florida
Experience and key learnings from experimental, piloting and modeling work that was undertaken for the past dozen years for transesterification of soybean and other oils in supercritical alcohols will be presented, focusing on supply chain sustainability and process intensification.

The two projects highlighted will be the process for novel reactive extraction at supercritical conditions and novel heat integrated 100,000 gallon/yr plant with an unique reactor design.

The supply chain implications of the novel distributed production approach and optimization of facility sizes will be discussed.
