(90b) Recent Advances in Zeolite-Based Technologies

Authors

Zeolite-based technologies will continue to play a key role to address challenges presented by changing feedstock composition and product demands in the energy, health and food industries. Modified or new zeolite structures with advanced control of active sites location and tailored properties will be required for step-out technology processes. In this talk, I will present two examples that highlight the relevance of the molecular level understanding of structure-performance relationships in novel zeolite discoveries. First, I will discuss metal encapsulation in zeolites and show the interconversion of platinum nanoparticles to single atoms in small pore CHA zeolite. Secondly, I will review the unprecedented ethylene separation from ethane in a new small and flexible pore zeolite. The potential of these technologies to reduce the amount of energy used in the production of chemicals and to increase the overall efficiency and sustainability is substantial. Nevertheless, additional research must be done before these materials can be considered for large-scale demonstration and commercialization.
