A primary goal of engineering, process, and sustainable design is high efficiency. The pursuit of sustainability objectives is driving the introduction of increasingly complex systems that incorporate new technologies to achieve high efficiency over a range of operating conditions. In the energy and materials processing sectors, as in the automotive, aerospace, and other industries, models are required to understand and develop these systems. Example application areas include renewable energy, hybrid systems, electricity storage, and biofuels. In this session, we showcase projects where modeling and simulation were used to optimize efficiency and yielded surprising insights along the way.
