Gas Oil Separation Plant Optimization in North Ghawar Producing Department

This report presents the work performed during COOP student assignment which was between: June 3rd â?? December 31th, 2015. The student received training with Saudi Aramco, Saudi Arabian national petroleum and natural gas company based in Dhahran, as Process Engineer for North Ghawar Producing Department in Abqiaq and this experience was very helpful especially for a fresh engineer like him. This report describes the job was done as well as some new topics were learned. it contains four case studies which were performed during the assignment namely: The Efficiency of High Pressure Production Traps (HPPT) based on the Actual Rate and Retention Time, Shedugm-5 HPPT Separation Performance Review, Disposal System Optimization and Hysys Simulation. Each case was discussed as well as its calculation and recommendation. In the first case study, it was found that the retention time of oil at high pressure production trap (HPPT) in Shedgum Gas and Oil Seperation Plant number 5 (GOSP-5) is 2.8 min which is below Saudi Aramco standard (above 4 min). Thus, the separation inefficient. In the second case study , we have discussed the inefficacity of the separation problem in Shegdum plant number 5. The reason of this problem were listed and discusses in detailed. Four solution were proposed and some of them are already exsist in Saudi Aramco facilities. the third case study was a simulation of the disposal system In Ain Dar area. Finally, the last case study is a simulation as well. However, it was conducted to check the amount of oil in water then compare it with Aramco standard.
