In light of the development of MCM-41 mesoporous silica materials, a variety of mesoporous nanoparticles have been synthesized by either using soft-template as structure directing agents or hard-template nanocasting replication.  Such mesoporous nanoparticles as mesoporous silica, mesoporous metal oxides, mesoporous organic-inorganic hybrid, mesoporous carbon and mesoporous polymer nanoparticles have drawn attention to their applications on drug delivery, catalysis, adsorption, separation, and energy storage.  Herein, my doctoral research has demonstrated the novel synthesis of mesoporous organic-inorganic hybrid silica nanoparticles, highly ordered mesoporous carbon nanoparticles, and mesoporous metal oxides as well as the applications of drug delivery, separation and catalytic supports for sustainable chemistry by using aforementioned nanoparticles.  Furthermore, my postdoctoral research has unveiled the unprecedented adsorption of glucans on mesoporous carbon materials, and is currently in pursuit of exploring efficient routes of depolymerizing lignocellulosic biomass.
