Simulation-Based Engineering and Science (SBE&S) involves the use of computer modeling and simulation to solve mathematical formulations of physical models of engineered and natural systems. The impacts of SBE&S can be observed in critical industries, such as pharmaceuticals, medical imaging, and telecommunications. In addition, the infrastructure of the Nation relies on SBE&S as it enables the efficient construction and design of our highways, automobiles and aircraft, buildings and power grids. While these examples are far from exhaustive, it is clear that SBE&S is an integral component of research and development, with far-reaching impacts on our lives and national competitiveness.
