The Tennessee Valley Authority has launched a major initiative working in a broad cooperative effort with its customers and stakeholders to become a leader in the Southeast in energy-efficiency improvement and peak demand reduction. In 2009, TVA worked with local power distributors to develop and market test new residential, commercial, and industrial energy efficiency programs. One of these programs is designed to encourage reductions in electric energy intensity in large industrial facilities. The program leverages the Department of Energy's Save Energy Now program to offer customized technical assistance aimed at developing plant-wide, holistic plans to identify and implement energy efficiency improvements, as well as providing incentives to encourage rapid implementation. TVA will discuss insights gained from its industrial customer market research, its program design process, and a case study.
