Electrochemically deposited selenium on activated carbon adsorbents exhibits high affinity for mercury capture from aqueous solutions. Selenium deposited using glutathione/selenite method exhibits unacceptable leaching. Current studies performed with electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM) and potentiostat. Resultant adsorbents do not leach selenium (down to pH 2) and are promising adsorbents for mercury capture aqueous solutions
