(489e) Interoperability of Com/.Net Cape-Open Process Modeling Components and Environments

It is widely recognized that the CAPE-OPEN middleware standards have been successful in allowing third-party process modelling components (PMCs) to be used in any process modelling environment (PME) using Microsoft's Component Object Model (COM). Since the inception of the CAPE-OPEN project, Microsoft updated COM to the .NET Framework. .NET enables a number of innovative information technologies that can be used not only within the process simulation application context, but also can enable information sharing across an enterprise. The purpose of this article is to present a summary of the interoperability guidance prepared by the CAPE-OPEN Laboratories Network (CO-Lan), confirming that updating the object model will retain and build upon the functionality of the original successes of CAPE-OPEN.
