Stokesian flow produced by a translating sphere at arbitrary position in a cylindrical conduit is an unsolved problem in fluid mechanics. In this talk, we present a methodology to address this question. We consider an arbitrary motion of a sphere in a cylinder and obtain the hydrodynamic friction. We also compare few limiting cases with existing results. For example, in the limit of a cylinder with infinite radius, our result agrees with the hydrodynamic friction of a sphere near a planar wall.
