Engineers Week 2018

1. Saturday & Sunday Feb. 17 & 18: AIChE Engineers Week hands-on demonstration display at the Whitaker Center. Sue Benjamin is looking for volunteers to help with our annual engineering activities at the Whitaker Center in Harrisburg. We are planning to provide educational hands-on activities and demonstrations inside the Harsco science center on Saturday, February 17th and Sunday February 18th.  A full list of the proposed activities is attached, but we mainly need help with the Chemical, Mechanical, and Packaging demos.  We also need help greeting participants and handing out Hershey gift bags as students complete the program.  Please consider signing up to help.   All materials and instructions will be provided, but we need volunteers to man the stations in 2-hour shifts and work with the kids. You do not need to be an engineer, or a member of one of the local societies to help!  This is an opportunity bring engineering to life for kids, educators, and parents and encourage STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.)  It has become a popular annual event, and we anticipate working with approximately 500 area kids during the two days. 2. Tuesday Feb. 20: E-Week Breakfast at Messiah College. Please see "E-Week Breakfast RSVP" attached.
3. Wednesday Feb. 21: E-Week Banquet at West Shore Country Club in Camp Hill. This is the main event and also our February monthly meeting. The speaker will be Dr. Brock Berry from West Point presenting on "Non-Verbal Communication". Also our section member Gregory (Greg) Gromicko has won the 2018 Engineer of the Year Award, so come out and help us celebrate this awesome achievement! In addition -- Tuesday March 6, 8:00am-noon: AIChE Susquehanna Section Special Award judging of categories at CASEF. On Tuesday morning March 6, AIChE members will be judging chemistry and environment entries in the Capital Area Science and Engineering Fair (CASEF) to be held at Blocker Hall of the Harrisburg HACC campus.  We need several volunteers to assist with the judging – about 4 hours of your time, maximum. The Fair Director has notified that Special Award judges are welcome for coffee and lunch in Cooper Hall at HACC.
