Speaker: Cris Hehner

Cris was born and raised on a small farm in Nebraska. He graduated from the University of Nebraska Lincoln with BSChE in 1976.  Cris started working for Monsanto in 1975. He worked in the fibers division initially and then the electronics division until 1989. While working for the electronics division he spent time working in the Monsanto plants located in Malaysia, Japan and Korea. In 1989 Monsanto Electronics was sold to Huels which formed MEMC. He worked for MEMC in the St. Peters plant until the summer 1990.

In 1990 he changed jobs and began working for Mallinckrodt.  His first job assignment at Mallinckrodt was their Chesterfield UK plant for 2 years. After that he spent 2 years working at the Raleigh PAP and APAP plant. He then spent several years working major projects at the Greenville COMPAP plant. He also did several major projects in the St. Louis Plant during that time.

The last 6 years he was at Mallinckrodt he worked on and documented relief devices for pressure vessels and combustible dust systems per OSHA and NFPA codes. He also wrote several of the Mallinckrodt safety standards.

He retired in April of 2022 after 46 years in industry.  He is presently in the process of relocating to the family farm in Nebraska and establishing a vineyard there.

EMERGENCY RELIEF VENTING PRESENTATION

Cris will give an over view presentation on emergency relief venting regarding the why, what, how and the documentation for relief devices. It will cover vapor, liquid and combustible dust venting.

It will be based on the 6 years he spent working on relief devices in Mallinckrodt and their documentation.

Of particular interest will be the watchouts Cris learned during his work and how to do proper documentation.

This presentation will be of great value to any engineer expecting to work on evaluating the need for, the sizing and documentation of relief devices.
