Job Opportunity: UW Environmental Health and Safety: Assistant Director for Environmental Programs

The Environmental Health and Safety Department (EH&S) at the University of Washington (UW) is currently recruiting for an Assistant Director for Environmental Programs (EP). After over 15 years of providing excellent service in this position, Dave Lundstrom has decided to retire. We are hoping to recruit and hire immediately for this position with a start date in late October, 2014.

This position supervises one of six sections of a total of 100 staff members in the EH&S Department and provides services to over 30 offsite locations as well as the Seattle, Bothell and Tacoma campuses.

The duties of this position include:

  • Serving as the UW liaison to regulatory agencies for the oversight on environmental contamination and hazardous waste materials management issues;
  • Representing EH&S on campus wide initiatives, working groups, and committees on the above issues; and
  • Managing all human resource needs of a section of 15 professional and classified staff.

The minimum qualifications for this job include: 

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Engineering, Public Health, Environmental Health or related field;
  2. Three to five years of experience in managing hazardous waste and monitoring environmental contamination; and
  3. Supervisory experience of a minimum of 2-3 years, and strong human resource management skills..
