Job Description

Environmental Regulatory Compliance

1.   Conduct Inspections and Testing of Equipment and Processes on required intervals to assure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations.

  • Swiss Combi Dryer– Annual stack testing requirements
  • Boilers – Ensure compliance with daily monitoring requirements; Semi-annual reporting requirements; Annual stack testing
  • Fermentation Scrubbers – Ensure compliance with daily monitoring requirements; Semi-annual reporting requirements; Annual stack testing
  • Distillation and Centrate Scrubbers – Ensure compliance with daily monitoring requirements; Semi-annual reporting requirements; Annual stack testing
  • Method 9 for plant opacity – Various monthly and annual requirements
  • Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) – Weekly visual inspection requirements; Monthly and Annual monitoring requirements
  • Spill Prevention, Controls and Countermeasures (SPCC) – Monthly visual inspections; Annual program review
  • Hazardous Waste – Weekly visual inspection requirements; Monthly disposal; Annual reporting
  • Storm-water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) – Assist in program improvements
  • Grain Unloading Bag House – Annual Stack Testing; Weekly visual inspections

2.   Complete required documentation for regulatory compliance

  • VOC Cap Calculations - Verification of effective documentation
  • Source Modification Construction Permit Application
  • Air Permit Documentation – Maintain and update all documentation in preparation for semi-annual KDHE inspections.Process Safety Management

Process Safety Management

1.   Assist with the Administration of the Process Safety Management Program to assure compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Verification of completeness and accuracy of safety information
  • Perform PHA’s
  • Perform in-house compliance auditing to existing PSM programs to assure compliance to all elements of the program

2.   Perform Equipment Inspections to meet regulatory requirements.

  • Storage tank mechanical integrity
  • Pressure relief valves
  • Pumps
  • Safety interlocks
  • Exposure monitoring devices

Safety & Environmental Management System (SEMS)

1.    Perform administrative and documentation requirements to comply with ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001

2.    Achieve plant environmental goal for each month and strive for continuous improvement.

  • Control of Records: Management of Change; Incident Investigation; Non-Conformance; SEMS Suggestions


1.    Provide Engineering Support for EHS project work

2.    Assist with coordination of Contractors being used for EHS project work.

3.    Training of Operators and First-Line Managers to meet regulatory requirements.

  • Hazardous Waste Management
  • Leak Detection and Repair
  • Spill Prevention, Controls and Countermeasures
  • Storm water Pollution Prevention Planning
  • Sanitation training to provide knowledge of sanitation areas and practices
Required Skills

Required Experience
  1. Education – B.S. Degree in Chemical or Environmental Engineering required
  2. Minimum of 2-3 years experience in a manufacturing plant process environment preferred
  3. Minimum of 2-3 years experience in EHS field preferred
  4. Interpretation of appropriate Federal regulations and program requirements in the area of EHS
  5. Basic knowledge of ISO 14001 and OSHAS 18001 systems preferred
  6. Basic knowledge of GMP practices preferred
