Speaker: 12 PM to 1 PM

Summary

Based on the best available science, the pathway to a future that avoids catastrophic climate change will require massive amounts of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) to extract carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and durably store it. We must minimize the need for CDR by accelerating emissions reduction, even with this the world will need billions of tons of CDR annually by 2050. This session will provide an overview of various CDR solutions available today, ranging from nature based approaches to engineered solutions, with a deep dive into Direct Air Capture (DAC). In the DAC deep dive we will examine various types of DAC systems and discuss the technical and financial challenges associated with scaling DAC.
