Faruque Hasan, CAST Director 2022-2024

Dr. Faruque Hasan is currently an Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University, the Kim Tompkins McDivitt ’88 and Phillip McDivitt ’87 Faculty Fellow, and a research coordinator of the Texas A&M Energy Institute. Dr. Hasan is a senior member of AIChE and has served as the 2019 Area Chair for the CAST Division. He is also the most recent recipient of the CAST Outstanding Young Researcher Award (2021). Dr. Hasan received his B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology in 2005, a Ph.D. from the National University of Singapore in 2010, and a postdoctoral training from Princeton University before joining Texas A&M University in 2014. Dr. Hasan leads a research group that is now being recognized for developing fundamental methods for environmentally sustainable process intensification, process design and multiscale optimization with applications to carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS), sustainable hydrogen economy, integration of renewables and distributed energy storage, and environmentally applied research toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions from hydrofluorocarbons. Dr. Hasan has co-authored more than 60 peer-reviewed journal articles, more than 30 conference proceedings and 4 book chapters. He is also a co-inventor of three patented technologies for carbon capture and utilization. In the last seven years, he has graduated seven PhDs and five Masters from his research group, and has advised more than twenty graduate students (including current members). He is the recipient of NSF CAREER award (2020), the I&ECR 2019 Class of Influential Researchers Award, the World Technology Network Award in Environmental Category (2018), ACS PRF Doctoral New Investigator Award (2017), Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award (2015), Texas A&M Outstanding Achievement Award, and Best Paper Awards from Computers & Chemical Engineering (2015) and Journal of Global Optimization (2017). He is currently serving as member of several Technical Committees of international conferences and Editorial Boards of several journals, including the Early Career Editorial Board of ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering.
