Thomas Hager

Thomas Hager writes about the ways that science and technology affect our lives. As a strong advocate for better science communication, he has been an invited lecturer and visiting scholar at numerous universities, and has spoken to groups ranging from the American Association for the Advancement of Science to the Goddard Space Center, Fortune 500 corporate boards, medical gatherings, and school and civic organizations.

His media appearances include C-Span’s “BookTV” and National Public Radio’s “Weekend Edition,” “Science Friday,” and “Tech Nation.” He is the author of eleven books and more than 100 articles, published in a spectrum of periodicals. His most recent book, The Alchemy of Air, was a Kirkus “Best Book of The Year” and Borders “Original Voices” selection.

Hager is currently a Courtesy Associate Professor of Journalism and Communication at the University of Oregon, where he has also served as Director of Communications and Marketing, and Director of the University of Oregon Press. He earned a Master’s degree in medical microbiology and immunology from the Oregon Health Sciences University, and a Master’s degree in journalism from the University of Oregon.
