Stewart W. Behie, PhD, P.E., is the Interim Director of the Mary Kay O’Connor Process Safety Center and a professor of practice at Texas A&M Univ. (TAMU) in College Station, TX. Before joining TAMU, Behie was manager of safety and process risk in the corporate risk management group of Occidental Oil and Gas Corp. in Houston, TX, where he provided risk management guidance and oversight to their operations worldwide. He has more than 40 years of technical experience in process safety, including more than 10 years at facilities in the Middle East. Behie has published several articles on risk-based decision management and risk management in operational settings and has given workshops on creating excellence in safety performance. He has a BS, an MS, and a PhD, all in chemical engineering, from the Univ. of Western Ontario in London, ON, Canada.
