Shannon worked as a Principal Process Engineer at Ambitech Engineering for 11 years before retiring in March 2016. She received her Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering from Michigan State University, and obtained her Master's degree from Northeastern University. She went on to receive her M.B.A in industrial relations and finance from the University of Chicago. She also received the 2019 Shining Star Award which recognizes outstanding volunteerism at the AIChE local section level.
