Prof. Lamprecht is studying cellular and molecular mechanisms that underlie memory formation, storage, and retrieval. To affect intracellular signaling at high spatiotemporal resolution he is using optogenetic approaches to control photoactivable signaling proteins activity by light. These photoactivatable proteins can be activated in selected cell populations and specific subcellular compartments in the brain. He studies how specific signaling molecules (e.g. tyrosine kinase receptors and small GTPases) affect long-term memories and the cellular events (e.g. neuronal activity and morphogenesis) that are involved in the formation, storage, and retrieval of long-term memory.
