Pablo is Senior Reader in Computational Biology at Universitat Politècnica de València, former senior staff scientist at SynBioChem Centre, Manchester Institute of Biotechnology. His research interests are in automated design for metabolic engineering and synthetic biology. Pablo has contributed to the development of several bioretrosynthesis tools for pathway design, including RetroPath, XTMS, EcoliTox and Promis protein design. Pablo is interested in applying the principles of machine learning and control engineering to sustainable biological design. He has contributed to the development of several theoretical models for bio-based and bio-inspired systems, from biosensors to robotic exoskeletons.
Pablo holds a M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Industrial Electronics Engineering, M.Sc. in Bioinformatics, Ph.D in Control Engineering and Research Habilitation in Systems Biology. Pablo has held a number of fellowships and visiting appointments, some of which include Institute of Systems and Synthetic Biology (iSSB) in France, Marie Curie UPFellow Fellowship of Transnational Academic Career at GRIB/IMIM Pompeu Fabra University (Barcelona, Spain), New York University Polytechnic School of Engineering (NYU-Poly), Polytechnic University of Valencia, GeneBio SA/Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics, German Cancer Research Center DKFZ, and Fujirebio Inc (Tokyo, Japan).
