Michael Garton is an Assistant Professor in the Institute for Biomedical Engineering at the University of Toronto. He is also the Canada Research Chair in Synthetic Biology. His research is focused on using generative AI to guide biological sequence design in the context of gene and cell therapy development. Toward this, he is developing generative models that can be used to design nonimmunogenic viral vectors for gene therapy delivery, and a synthetic biology toolkit for human stem cell engineering.
