Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering
Drexel University

Matthew A. McDonald is an Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering at Drexel University in Philadelphia. His research focuses on the intersection of chemical separations, automation, and machine learning. He is particularly interested in accelerating the development of crystallization processes. Crystallization is essential for high purity in the pharmaceutical industry, and crystal structure databases contain troves of high-quality data, yet developing crystallization processes remains a challenge, especially for the large, flexible, multicomponent medicines being developed today. Besides chemical engineering, Matt is also a running fanatic, counting a 10th place finish at the 2023 Boston Marathon among his many races.
