Maike Hansen

Assistant Professor
Radboud University

Maike Hansen is an assistant professor in the Biophysical Chemistry department at Radboud University. Her research focuses on understanding how cells, though immensely complex, can still function robustly and dynamically. Her group leverages computational modeling, cell-free biochemistry, and quantitative single-cell biology to unravel the diverse mechanisms by which cells regulate gene expression.

Maike obtained her MSc in Chemical Biology from the University of Warwick (UK), and a PhD in Biochemistry from Radboud University (NL). From 2016 to 2019 Maike was an NWO Rubicon postdoctoral fellow at Gladstone Institutes (UCSF) in San Francisco, where she studied gene expression dynamics of viruses, specifically HIV. Since starting her own group in 2020, Maike received an ERC Starting Grant in 2022 for the project “ChOICE” and a VIDI grant by the Dutch Research Council (NWO) in 2023. In 2021 she was awarded the Descartes-Huygens Prize from the Académie des Sciences and the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences.
