John Birmingham is a process engineer at Origin Materials, a California-based startup company focused on commercializing new and existing chemical building blocks. Origin has developed a new furan-based chemical platform that converts diverse biofeedstocks into value-added chemicals like paraxylene. John has managed projects on design and optimization of pilot-scale reactor systems, as well as heterogeneous catalyst development. Before joining Origin, he received B.S. and M.S. degrees in chemical engineering from University of Delaware and California Institute of Technology, respectively.
