JEFFREY R. SEAY, P.E., PhD, is a professor of chemical engineering and the PJC Board of Trustees Engineering Professor at the Univ. of Kentucky College of Engineering Paducah Extended Campus Program (Email: jeffrey.seay@uky.edu). He is also the President and Founder of Empowered Solutions for Environmental Sustainability (www.eses-plastic.org), a nonprofit organization focused on helping local communities in developing countries take control of their plastic waste management challenges. Seay holds an appointment as visiting professor in the Dept. of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering at Makerere Univ. in Kampala, Uganda. His research focuses on developing sustainable, renewable energy solutions for under­developed regions, particularly sub-Saharan Africa. Seay is the chair of the AIChE Topical Conference on Waste Plastics, a member of the Managing Board of the AIChE Institute for Sustainability (IfS), and a member of the editorial board of Environmental Progress & Sustainable Energy. He is a past chair of the AIChE Sustainable Engineering Forum (SEF), past vice chair of the SEF and chair of its Education Committee, and past programming chair of the AIChE Environmental Div. Seay has a BS from Auburn Univ., an MS from the Univ. of South Alabama, and a PhD from Auburn Univ., all in chemical engineering.
