Hiroshi Shimizu is a Professor in the Graduate School for Information Science and Technology at Osaka University. His expertise lies in Bioinformatic Engineering and Metabolic Engineering. Dr. Shimizu's research interests lie in bioprocesses for production of chemicals and fuels using microorganisms. By constructing models based on genome information, he has developed a technology to design metabolism in silico in order to produce the target substance. He is researching methods to experimentally determine the metabolic flux by isotope-labeled compound tracing experiments. Furthermore, in order to create robust cells for the bioprocesses, he is studying how to make them stress resistant by integrating omics information evolutionary engineering to confer stress tolerance. Dr. Shimizu received his Ph.D. in Engineering from Kyoto University.
