Our lab studies how immune cells control fate choices, both as they develop from stem cells, and as they mount responses to pathogens.  Cells employ circuits of interacting genes and molecules to integrate signals and execute fate transitions.  To understand how these circuits work, and we make quantitative measurements of their dynamic behavior in single cells using live-cell imaging.  We then complement these studies with biochemical, genetic, and modeling approaches to both define the molecular basis of these circuits, and also elucidate their underlying design principles.

Through this work, we aim to understand principles of decision making in mammalian cells, and also apply this understanding to engineer immune cells to fight disease.
