
Gershon Weltman, PhD, is Principal Scientist and Senior Vice President of Perceptronics Solutions, a defense R&D company specializing in the use of artificial intelligence technologies for support of collaborative planning and decision-making. At Perceptronics, Weltman is responsible for work in the area of human and team performance as well as for the design, development, and delivery of innovative and complex training systems; these include the Stress Resilience Training System (SRTS®), a comprehensive application for alleviating the negative effect of stress and using its positive effects productively, and TEELAWS, an interactive course, currently in development, for Training the Ethical Employment of Lethal Autonomous Weapons. In his concurrent position as a Lecturer in the Samueli School of Engineering at the Univ. of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), Weltman teaches two courses, “Engineering and Society” and “Technology and Society,” both of which focus on ethical considerations in the interaction of society and technology and in engineering practice. He was a six-year member of the U.S. Army Science Board, where he participated in studies focusing on training and simulation, and chaired studies on human behavior in combat and on the small arms production industry. His BS, MS, and PhD are in engineering and human factors from the UCLA Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science.
