George Prpich, PhD, is an assistant professor of chemical engineering at the Univ. of Virginia. He holds a BSc in chemical engineering from the Univ. of Saskatchewan and a PhD in chemical engineering from Queen’s Univ. He is a member of the American Society for Engineering Education and AIChE. Prpich has authored more than 40 peer-reviewed publications related to his research interests in bioprocess engineering, environmental engineering, environmental risk management, and engineering education. He has also worked as a consultant, providing risk management expertise to the U.K. government, the European Union, and the United Nations. He has more than 15 years of experience teaching undergraduates and graduates in Canada, the U.K., and the U.S., and he currently teaches unit operations to third- and fourth-year undergraduate students. Prpich currently sits on the Chemical Engineering Laboratory Safety Committee and is supporting efforts to improve department safety culture through novel undergraduate pedagogy.
