Derek has worked at Air Products for over 40 years. As Process Safety Director, he is responsible for managing Air Products global process safety performance and risk.
Derek is routinely asked to present at industry conferences, work with industry standards organizations, and regulators. He has authored peer reviewed papers on fire, explosion, and gas dispersion modeling, as well as process safety risk management. Derek became an Air Products Fellow in 2021.
Derek has a passion for hydrogen safety and was greatly honored in 2025 by the Center for Hydrogen Safety, with the first Robert Zalosh Hydrogen Safety Excellence Award. A true career highlight.
Derek joined Air Products in 1984. His early career at Air Products was spent in the United Kingdom, where he held process engineering and technology management positions. In 2001 he transferred to the United States taking leadership positions in engineering, commercial development and the Chief Engineers Office, prior to assuming his current position in 2017.
Derek received his M.S degree in chemical engineering from the University of Cambridge, UK in 1984.
