Professor Christoph Hartmann started his professional career as a mechanical engineer in the automotive industry in 1997. He joined the Nestlé Research Center in Lausanne in 2006, where he investigated the mechanisms of in-mouth food breakdown. He was the leader of the Global Flavor Expert Network.
In 2012, he took up position in R&D center in Beijing China and built the Nestle Food Safety Institute. In 2016 returned to Nestle Research Center to take up responsibilities for the Consumer Science Department. Since 2018, he leads Academic Alliances and Expertise Development at Nestlé.
