Brian Farrell

Brian is originally from New Jersey and graduated from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering degree, followed by obtaining a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania.  Brian began a 29-year career with Air Products and Chemicals after completing his graduate studies.  Brian progressed through a variety of technical leadership positions in Engineering, Plant Operations, EHS, and Research and Development during his time at Air Products. 

Brian’s experience includes leading the H2 Plant Process Engineering team for the world’s largest fleet of H2 plants, serving as Global Director for the Air Separation Process Technology team which designed the world’s largest cryogenic air separation facility, leading process safety for the company as Global Director for Process Safety, managing technology innovation as Executive Director for Research and Development, and holding an appointment as Chief Engineer for the company.  Brian had responsibility for Process Safety in Plant Design, Plant Operation, or Research and Development throughout his career at Air Products.   

Since retiring at Air Products, Brian has worked as a CCPS Consultant while also providing Process Technology and Process Safety expertise to industrial clients.   At CCPS, Brian leads the Undergraduate Process Safety Learning Initiative project, which is developing a series of on-line courses that are being used at universities across the world to improve Process Safety education.   Brian leads the CCPS Safe Work Practice (SWP) project which is updating existing SWPs on the CCPS web site and developing new SWPs for use by member companies.   Brian also leads two CCPS book projects on the topics of Abnormal Situation Management and Process Safety Knowledge Management, both of which are due to be published in 2023.
