Brent Young, PhD, holds a BE (1986) and PhD (1993) in chemical and process engineering from the Univ. of Canterbury, New Zealand. Young has experience as an academic and consulting engineer in Australia, Canada, and New Zealand in process control and design. He has been a Chair in the Dept. of Chemical and Materials Engineering at the Univ. of Auckland, New Zealand since 2011, where he has been the Director of the Industrial Information and Control Centre since 2007. His research and engineering experience is in developing digital models, shadows, and twins for process systems. A Fellow of both the Institution of Chemical Engineers and Engineering New Zealand, he was the recipient of the 2014 Australasian Award of Excellence in Chemical Engineering (Teaching). He has published more than two hundred refereed publications, holds a patent, and is coauthor of two novel teaching texts on process control.
