Alzbeta Bouskova Houghton

Chief Technical Officer
Ecogas

Alzbeta is the Chief Technical Officer of Ecogas. Ecogas is operating New Zealand’s first anaerobic digestion system utilising source separated feedstock to generate renewable energy, carbon dioxide and a nutrient rich bio-fertiliser Fertify.

Following a successful start in 2022, Ecogas has partnered with First Renewables (a Clarus Company) to develop a biomethane upgrading facility. This facility will upgrade and refine the biogas into renewable gas (biomethane) and bioCO2, displacing fossil fuel derived sources. This is the first project of its kind in Aotearoa and a step towards a more circular economy.

The Reporoa facility is expected to produce 100,000 GJ of biomethane per year with a potential to further scale-up. Ecogas is currently developing a second facility in Christchurch.

As an expert in anaerobic digestion and resource recovery from organic residues, Alzbeta has a wide understanding of the economic and environmental landscape both here in New Zealand and on a world stage. Alzbeta holds a MSc and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and a Master of Business Administration.  Alzbeta has been at the forefront of the bioenergy industry in New Zealand over the last 10 years through her involvement in the Bioenergy Association of New Zealand (BANZ).
