
Adriaan van Heiningen holds the J. Larcom Ober Chair in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of Maine, Orono, ME, USA. Since September 2011 he also has a position as Visiting Research Professor at Aalto University in the Department of Forest Products Technology in Espoo, Finland. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering from McGill University, Montreal, Canada. His recent research interest is the establishment of an “Integrated Forest Products Refinery” which produces transportation fluids, chemicals and biomaterials besides pulp, paper and wood products. In the past 30 years he worked on fundamental chemical engineering aspects of pulp and paper processes; in particular those of wood pulping, pulp bleaching, and recovery of waste kraft pulping chemicals.
