Josebus van Zyl graduated from Stellenbosch University, South Africa after completing the degree of Bachelors in Engineering (BEng) in 2004. Here became interested in the field of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) after investigating the air flow conditions over a South African Navy Corvette superstructure. He furthered his studies at Stellenbosch and obtained the degree of Master of Science in Engineering (MScEng) in 2006 for the numerical investigation of the thermo-flow conditions through an motor vehicle underhood. He is currently completing his PhD degree for the development of a set of numerical models to investigate the hydrolysis and fermentation of cellulose to ethanol. The goal of this study is the capability to numerically model the three-dimensional effects and processes present within a fermentation vessel including particle properties and distribution, reaction kinetics, and interaction between both.
