Dr. B. Wayne Bequette

Dr. Bequette worked for three years as a process engineer for American Petrofina between his undergraduate and graduate studies. From 1986 to 1987 he was a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Texas and from 1987 to 1988 he was a Visiting Lecturer at the University of California at Davis. He joined the Rensselaer faculty in 1988 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1994 and Professor in 2000. Dr. Bequette was on sabbatical leave during the 1995-6 academic year, spending the fall semester at Merck Research Laboratories and the spring at Northwestern University.

Dr. Bequette served as an Associate Editor for Automatica from 1993-2005. He was also the Program Chair of the 2001 American Control Conference (Washington, D.C.), the General Chair of the 2003 American Control Conference (Denver), and the AIChE Director on the Board of the American Automatic Control Council (2000-1). He was the Chair of the Computing and Systems Technology (CAST) Division of AIChE in 2006, and currently serves as President of the American Automatic Control Council. He is a Fellow of the AIChE (May, 2008), was induced into the Arkansas Academy of Chemical Engineers (April, 2007) and received the Rensselaer School of Engineering Research Excellence Award (2008).

Dr. Bequette is the author of Process Control: Modeling, Design and Simulation (2003) and Process Dynamics: Modeling, Analysis and Simulation (1998), both published by Prentice Hall. He served as the Guest Editor of Diabetes Technology and Therapeutics (February, 2005), for a Symposium on Algorithms for Continuous Glucose Monitoring and Control. Dr. Bequette also edited special issues on Process Control for the IEEE Control Systems Magazine (August and December, 2006). He is a founding member of the editorial board of the Journal of Diabetes Science and Technology, and he co-edited three special issues in 2007.
