There Is No C in Hydrogen: Low Carbon Footprint Hydrogen Production

Authors

Low carbon hydrogen production is a key component of the energy transition strategy for many energy and chemical industries. Existing hydrogen production units can take advantage of pressure and concentration to capture CO2 at lower cost, and new hydrogen production can use alternate configurations and technologies to further reduce emissions. This overview presentation considers the benefits and tradeoffs of different approaches for reducing the carbon footprint of commercial scale hydrogen production.

Among high impact decarbonization opportunities, low carbon footprint hydrogen can have lower cost, a more straightforward implementation path, and a wider range of commercially proven technology options. This presentation considers the costs and impacts of key design decisions around this important path through the energy transition.
