(157a) Refinery to Petrochemical Integration Using Dividing Wall Column Technology

With lower gasoline demand, an integration between a refinery and petrochemical complex has become more lucrative. Efforts are being made in identifying synergies and optimizing them for operational and economic gains where refinery and petrochemical complex exchange many streams such as feedstocks, byproducts and utilities.

Dividing wall columns offer an attractive option for an integration between refinery and petrochemical complex. The paper presents the following case studies of using dividing wall column technology for this integration:

• Meet new specifications of 1 ppm CS2 in petrochemical naphtha
• Using byproducts from isomerization unit as petrochemical feedstock
• Revamp existing naphtha splitter to maximize aromatic feed stock for petrochemical complex.
